One of my favorite programs in D1 football has made the move to the MWC. For this year at least I don't see it really any more than a lateral move on their part. Is the current MWC any more potent than the current WAC? Probably not and in fact with TCU moving on to the Big East (that makes geographical sense), and Utah moving on to perhaps dominate the PAC 10, it could be argued that the move is a slight downgrade. Next year it appears that Nevada and Fresno State will be making the move on over to the MWC to again add a bit of legitimacy to the league. It would probably be best if both these conferences combine their forces to become a quasi "super conference." It would certainly make for some interesting match ups and perhaps give both leagues a bit of legitimacy in the "big leagues" of college ball.
As of this time I am a bit behind with my surface depth, inexpert, and usually biased, analysis of the college game. Have not purchased any of the "bibles" yet but will be doing so within the next week or two.
"Stay tuned," as they say.

Rice Univeristy Football Players Arrested
Some football players over at Rice University have found themselves on the wrong side of the law recently and have been arrested. If I recall (I am too lazy to look), two were charged on weapon offences and two for drug possession. This is actually good news for Owl football fans. Sounds like Rice wants to become a legitimate football power. It is about time.

Late Congrats
Congrats to the UConn squad winning the NCAA D1 National Championship in round ball. Not who I wanted to win but what the hey. It would be nice if D1 football had as cool a tourney as "March Madness." Won't happen though.

March Madness
This humble blog is dedicated to college football but now, arguably, is one of the most interesting and fun times of the year in the college sporting world. March Madness is upon us and this year, Houston gets to host the final four. Can't get much better than that. The usual suspects are of course in the tourney and as usual I am going to be rooting for the underdog.
My favorites this year are UALR, Memphis, SDSU, Kansas State and maybe, just maybe I can root for the Longhorns. It is unlikely of course that any of these teams with the probable exception of SDSU will make a whole lot of noise. I suppose one can't count out Memphis and KSU. The Longhorns? Hard to say. KSU had a bad stretch but appear to be a talented team. UALR is just lucky to be there, but I hope they win one or two. We will see. Stranger things have happened.
It would be nice if NCAA D1 Football could come up with some kind of tournament like is played at all levels of NCAA Basketball, Baseball, and even lower division football. I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

A Game This Weekend
I have been out of pocket for a week or so with no Internet access and limited television but I did hear something about some sort of football game being held this weekend in that little town up the road from Houston. Are the Saints in it? No? I will still probably watch a bit because I hear tell that there are some interesting commercials aired during this game. I am a fan of the artform of television advertising.
On a serious note; I have always wondered if the Super Bowl and/or other major sporting events have been targeted by some sort of Mohammedan terrorist outfit. Perhaps these type of events have been on terrorist radar but have been thwarted by our security apparatus. Let us hope that those who are paid to protect us keep up the good work. I have had just about enough of Muslims, but that is just me.

The Final Outcome
My predictions for the Bowls and IAA Championship Game was 19-13 which gives me a grand total for the season of 182-127. Not real good. Not real bad either. That is bumping right up on 70 per cent for the 2010 season. I was hoping for about 80 percent but I am not complaining. Many of the so called "professional" football analysts do very little better than 70 percent. I would guess that those in the business of betting would be very happy with an 80 to 85 percent winning record. I definitely had some fun and of course many of my predictions were nothing more than guesswork with very little real analysis involved. I also allowed myself to be "persuaded" quite often to pick teams based on emotion. For instance I had a very hard time picking Ohio State for a win even when it was pretty likely that the outcome would be a Buckeye victory. I had a friend in service who was a rabid OSU fan and drove everybody nuts with it. He even had a tape of the Buckeye Marching Band and would play it all the time. Same for Notre Dame. I don't like them. I just don't like them. Of course picking against the Irish was often a no brainer despite their vast improvement. Don't get me started on those silly Aggies. All in all it was a pretty fun season. I am looking forward to the spring games and will be (Allah willing) doing it again next season. I will be soon posting the final top 25 in the real BCS (Bartender Cabbie Series) standings.

Still with this NFL
Someone was talking about some NFL games that were played yesterday. Is that still going on? New Orleans isn't playing so there are no NFL games. At least none worth watching.
